Let me check the pulse of socialism because y’all say y’all want it but are you ready to put your money where your mouth is?

Would you be ok paying up to *an additional* $8,000 a year in taxes if it meant universal healthcare and no-tuition college for everyone? #poll
I wish someone would run this as a scientific, national poll. I’d love to see how this would fare among a representative voter population. Maybe a disconnect. Bcuz then the question would be where are the elected officials to back this up and develop legislation/implement policy?
Also, I’ve seen several proposals for universal healthcare (think Medicare For All) or a universal basic income. But I’ve seen it where the UBI would include a portion earmarked for purchasing health insurance.

My question is why not both? Why not socialized healthcare AND UBI?

Some of you say you don’t GAF about white people yet you are constantly bothered by them and it shows in your actions, if not your words. Some of you are truly bothered by white people who go through life, just living their lives, oblivious to their privilege. But you know what?
There is something to be said for going through life (or at least trying to) somewhat oblivious to your surroundings. Most white people get in their cars and drive to the store not worried that something bad will happen to them. But here’s the thing, nothing will happen to most…
…black people either. So why constantly worry about it? I know twitter is just a VERY small set of folks because most of the population doesn’t use it, but too many of y’all seem consumed by the exceptions in life. Too many of you go through your days LOOKING for something…

Ok y’all, another mini rant. Sorry to do it but these tweets hurt my heart yesterday and I really wish more people had a better understanding of homeownership and the way money works. In the end everyone is obviously free to make their own decisions but I want y’all to stop…
…being so uninformed. I want y’all to be able to see beyond a monthly payment. I’m not @/ting the one young man directly because he clearly said he doesn’t wish to discuss his tweet. But again, I want people to have a fuller picture regarding this subject.
Initial tweet. First off, RENT is eternal if you’re renting. I’m not saying it’s throwing money away BUT you get no future benefit from renting. You DO from owning. Also, does he even know/realize that the owner is calculating the property taxes into his rent payment?

The responses to this question and questions like it always saddens me. #1 response is “I don’t want to be responsible for maintenance and upkeep, taxes, insurance, etc.”

Well you’re paying for ALL of that in your rent anyway. At least consider that you keep equity when you own.
You pay rent for 10, 15, 30 years or a lifetime then you have absolutely nothing to show for it. Again, in that rental payment you’re STILL paying for all the things you say you don’t want to pay for. Think about that. True if something breaks, you CAN just call the landlord.
But what you perhaps don’t realize is that the landlord has already calculated those maintenance costs into YOUR rental payment or they’ll recoup it in future rent increases. So either way, you’re STILL paying for it. Some us have to start thinking abt money beyond a monthly pmt.

We know how we got here. We know that there are forces invested in keeping us here. But until we collectively make the determination to fix what we can, the parts that WE have more control over, we’ll never move ahead. Many people don’t like the idea of delayed gratification…
…and engaging in family planning to delay kids until they’re more financially stable. Parents don’t need to force kids out at 18 or 20 and kids need to stop being so eager to jump out there and spend a bunch of money just to be “grown.” If you must, have roommates. Split costs.
The young lady asked how do you build wealth when you don’t have money. First, make the absolute most of the public education you receive. I’m certainly not saying schools aren’t underfunded across the board, BUT many of us don’t even take full advantage of what we have.

People should be aware that loan interest accrues *even* when your payments are being deferred. It’s important to increase your understanding of how loans work if you are going to use them.
There are many programs out there to restructure your loan payments for you and some people just don’t bother digging into the details. Sure a lower payment *sounds* better, BUT there is a cost. Loan interest still accrues on the loan principal and restructuring your payments…
