Had two dips in Cauvery in two days .. one in Amma Mandapam in Trichy & another one in Kumbakonam.. bliss it was ! Hope Sri Ranganathar blesses south TN with Cauvery water like this every year!
I would strongly urge all those who can afford to take a couple of days and go to Kumbakonam(it has around 10 beautiful temples) and enjoy the Cauvery ! I was told it’s after a decade Cauvery was like this. Don’t miss it!

These boys study in a Veda Patha Shala run by the Dayananda Saraswati’s trust in Kodavasal which is about 20 km from Kumbakonam & were reciting in the Brahmotsavam in Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple which has the only northfacing sanctum of Lord Srinivasa in the World #WalkToTemple
This Pata sala offers 8 year curriculum for the boys.What does it take to master Vedas?A schedule starts at 3.30 AM ending at 9.45.After a slow start,they pick up rigor & learn Vedas for 8 hours a day & also Maths Science etc. @mrangam is an active contributor to this good work
@mrangam Now let’s come back to this 13 year old boy who I had mentioned in the first tweet today, his name is Varada Desikan & in this video you can see him sitting in the Rath & helping the chief priest with the pooja. After reciting Veda non stop for an hour He sat in #WalkToTemple
@mrangam He is just 13 & here is the fascinating part,he isn’t part of the Patasala but is studying 9th in a CBSE school in Kumbakonam & learnt reciting hyms purely out of interest & his Grand Dad’s guidance whose house was opposite to the Patasala. So he would come weekends #WalkToTemple
@mrangam And annual holidays and hang out with the boys who are learning Vedas & priests in the temple and learnt all these hymes & takes active part in all Bhagawan Kaingaryams regularly in temple.I picked up a conversation with this boy & found him to be extremely #WalkToTemple
@mrangam Intelligent & very confident in talking with elders and kids alike. I was fascinated that ge sat in one place for 4 hours in the chariot doing all that work.I have a 14 YO who won’t even sit in one place for one hour let alone in a pooja. He has been learning Vedas #WalkToTemple
@mrangam Part time since for the past 4 years & wants to learn the Krishna Yajur Vedam fully before he finishes school. And guess what he is a topper in school, an active in sports & his favourite subject is science & wants to join NASA when he grows up & finishes studies #WalkToTemple
@mrangam Then I thought about it, if you can learn Vedas and that too out of interests, science maths and all must be child’s play and this probably explains why Brahmins in general & #TamBrahms in particular are intelligent & tippers in school’s, colleges etc? Gene’s at work ?
