Today with my #WalkToTemple trip, I realise that I have completed a unique milestone.

In the list of top 10 tallest Gopurams in India (possibly the world), I've covered the 8 that are in Tamil Nadu.

Once I visit Hampi (10th) and Murudeshwar (2nd), I'd have covered all 10. 🙂
9. South Gopuram of Meenakshi Amman temple.
Height: 170 feet tall.
8. Ammani Amman Gopuram, Annamalaiyar temple, Tiruvannamalai.
Height: 171 feet tall.

#TodayInHistory Francis Day of East India Company gets a small strip of land from Peda Venkata Raya of Chandragiri, grandson of Aliya Rama Raya, to build a factory and warehouse in 1639 AD. That strip would become the metropolis known as Chennai. Happy #MadrasDay
Chennai, the city where I started my career, stayed there for a year, been there many times after that too. A city close to my heart, of which have some great memories. A city of culture, tradition, and a rather laidback lifestyle. Happy #MadrasDay
Spencer's Plaza in Mount Road, one of our favorite hangout joints. Much before malls became common in India, this was one of the more well known ones. Of course more often than not came here to beat the heat. Not sure if it is still as popular now #MadrasDay

On the occasion of Vaikunta Ekadashi sharing a detailed #WalkToTemple thread on one of the most significant Shri Vaishnava Kshetrams, the Cheluvanarayana Swamy & Yoga Narasimha Swamy temples at Melukote, Karnataka.
This is the entrance to the Cheluvanarayana Swamy temple. The main temple itself dates back to the pre-Hoysala era & enjoyed the patronage of later rulers of Vijayanagara empire & the Mysore Wadiyars. Shri Ramanujacharya spend a significant amount of time here. #WalkToTemple
The Gopuram is in the typical Hoysala/Vijayanagara style, featuring the Kirtimukha at the very top & the "Sala" or the fighting lion at various tiers, the Sala was the royal emblem of the Hoysalas, who were Vaishnavites. #WalkToTemple

This is the Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple situated at Nandi village, at the foothills of Nandi hills, just on the outskirts of Bangalore. It is one of the oldest known temples of the area. Its construction was initiated by the very little known Nolambas, yet they ruled over 300 yrs.
The temple continued to expand under the Cholas, the Pallavas, the Hoysalas & finally under the Vijayanagara empire it reached its zenith in size & grandeur. Every aforementioned kingdom left their signature mark on the temple's architecture.A fine blend not seen in other temples
The temple has 3 main shrines dedicated to 3 aspects of life of Lord Shiva, them being 1) Arunachaleshwara 2) Uma Maheshwara and finally 3) Bhoga Nandeeshwara. Each built by the Nolambas, the Hoysalas & the Cholas respectively. The Nandi opposite Arunachaleshwara gudi.
