What's eye-opening about Labour's sticking points, are that The #LibDems' plans they balked at, are utterly socialist... Extra spending for poorer students. Proportional representation. An increase in renewable energy. No tax for low earners. No compulsory ID cards...
There appears to be a pattern with Labour citing "the will of the people" when failing to take decisions that'd make them unpopular in the short term, but would benefit the country in the long-term.
Here's Labour's John Reid throwing his toys out the pram.
The cry of "Yellow Tories" aimed at The #LibDems is completely false. The Liberal Democrats are a party of SOCIAL LIBERALISM. They CREATED The Welfare State. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_w…
While in coalition govt. with The Tories, from 2010-2015, The #LibDems blocked a number of AWFUL Tory policies from coming to fruition. markpack.org.uk/129190/what-th…
Many feel that The #LibDems are tainted, as they somehow enabled public spending austerity cuts by The Tories. The truth is that public spending cuts were already planned by the last LABOUR budget in March 2010, two months prior to #GE2010. theguardian.com/politics/2010/…
It's worth noting if you read that article from 2010, that @TheIFS calculated that cuts would continue until 2017. The #LibDems inherited this public spending deficit, when entering the coalition government.
And talking of @TheIFS, when they reviewed the three main parties' #GE2017 manifestos, they found that those on the lowest incomes would have been better-off under a #LibDems govt. Labour's sums didn't even add-up. channel4.com/news/factcheck…
I haven't always been a #LibDems member. In fact, I only joined early this year. I'll admit that Clegg's pre-election promise to scrap tuition fees was foolish when there was no public money to fund this. The "Bedroom Tax" was a huge misstep too. But that was then and this is now
Although The #LibDems wouldn't have removed tuition fees had they been elected in #GE2017, they would've reintroduced Maintenance Grants for the poorest students. savethestudent.org/news/lib-dems-…
And getting back to my original point, it's a total fallacy that The #LibDems were in bed with The Tories, during the Con-Lib coalition. It's laughable when you consider that Corbyn's Labour party repeatedly enables Tory policy by voting with them or abstaining over Brexit.
Labour in "opposition" are currently more in-league with The Tories than the #LibDems EVER WERE while in the Con-Lib coalition government.
There is NOTHING remotely socialist regarding Brexit. Corbyn's insular desire to isolate the UK smacks of NATIONAL socialism.
And when The #CorbynCult accuse #LibDems of "selling out" and only entering the #GE2010 coalition to obtain power, remind them that the current Welsh government is a LABOUR-Liberal Democrats coalition. 🙄 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_…
