1/ Problem: If we have a fragmented collection of smaller efforts and parties, we will never get the gravity. We need a single political entity which stands solely for saving the country - an Emergency Alliance to Save Britain.
3/ In theory, Libdems fit the space. I joined them. But it just isn't happening (much as I'd like it to). We need to think beyond normal party politics. This is an emergency! We need everyone to come together for this historic task.
4/ The alliance would have to:
- Decide on a minimal manifesto to get the country out of this nightmare, with limited term.
- Decide who represents the alliance in each contested constituency on the basis of local popularity and chances of election
- Suspend ordinary politics!
5/ The alliance, once formed, would pool resources and operate a joint fundraising effort for the term of operation. The more gravity, the greater the chance of significant fundraising.
6/ The alliance's message to party MPs: Join us now. No commitment for 'after'. Aim to return back to your party (under new leadership) in the future if you wish.
7/ The term of the alliance would either be to defeat Brexit before it happens, or be the single entity around which our efforts to rejoin is focused. It would stand for the vision of a country willing to play its full role in our region and beyond as part of the Eu.
8/ Like a single party, or coalition of parties under PR, compromise would have to be the name of the game in order to ensure that the key objective can be won. I.e. OK to rub shoulders with traditional foes.
9/ All participating parties could continue to use their branding, but when campaigning and standing candidates, they would all use the alliance's branding, and their messages would focus on the alliance objectives
10/ The alliance would make it clear that once the objective had been won, that the alliance could be ended.
Perhaps after Implementation of #proportionalrepresentation and strong electoral laws governing honesty in political campaigns? Let's reboot the nation!
One reason why the LD may not get more support: *Labour* people are pro EU too. #EmergencyAlliance wouldn't require Lab people to change an identity which already serves our aims. They could consider themselves being "Labour: supporting EA"
