We're a bit late to this #AprilTTRPGMaker thing, but we do want to participate, so let's catch up!

1. Who are you?
The primary user of this account is Ross Leiser, the Founder and Director here at Outlandish Adventure Productions, but there's more! (cont.
1. (cont.)
We also have an awesome graphic designer: @freeners, as well as a good friend of mine named Ted Bowman, who doesn't have a Twitter for me to link, but just joined the OAP design team.

We're just a group of nerds with weird senses of humor and a love of odd mechanics.
2. Where ya at?
When OAP was founded, we were located in Wilmington, Delaware, US. But, as of January, we've moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
3. How did you start creating ttrpgs?
Well, I've always had an overactive imagination, but wasn't introduced to the world of #DnD until Summer 2014 with 4e. Once #dnd5e came out, I embraced my overactive imagination to try homebrewing an arcane thirdcasting barbarian. (cont.)
3. (cont.)
That subclass was BAD, but you'll see a much improved version in The Complete Martialist Handbook (shameless plug, #sorrynotsorry) that OAP's making with @sterlingvermin! Speaking of Benjamin, his Pugilist inspired us to create our own stuff for the #DMsGuild. (cont.)
3. (cont. 2)
We started with the Sculptor, pictured a couple tweets above, and we've been creating ever since!
4. Describe your work.
I already did a bit of this above, but OAP creates content for #dnd5e on the #DMsGuild, primarily focusing on player options, though we're looking into expanding to resource books (like #HnD, our collaboration with @level2npc), Patreon, and YouTube.
5. Favorite game you've worked on.
Well, we've only really worked on #dnd5e, but that'd probably be our favorite regardless!

...And that gets us all caught up! I'm looking forward to continuing tomorrow! If you want any more info on anything, we'd love to hear from you!
6. Favorite game mechanic?

In the base game, I find the advantage/disadvantage system in #dnd5e to be particularly well-designed. Speaking of an OAP mechanic, I love the Odic's spellcasting system; it was so hard to get right, but so satisfying when we finally got it working.
We're a little behind #AprilTTRPGMaker over the weekend, so let's catch up!

7. Your workspace.
8. Describe your routine.

- Come up with a crazy idea for a mechanic
- Decide if it belongs on a race, class, subclass, magic item, or spell
- Iterate on concepts for the option
- Write out mechanics
- Post on reddit.com/r/OutlandishAd… for feedback
- Realize it sucks
(cont.)
8. (cont.)

- Rewrite
- Post update on Subreddit for feedback
- Repeat rewriting and update posting as necessary until it goes from "sucks" to "awesome"
- Commission art, often from @ruiferreiraart
- Send to @freeners for PDF-ification
- Post on #DMsGuild
9. Describe your process.

Oops, just realized I did that as number 8. Then let's describe routine here:

- Wake up
- Eat breakfast while thinking about D&D
- Work on OAP stuff (design, social media, and networking)
- Eat lunch
- Part-time job to pay bills
(cont.)
9. (cont.)

- Decompress while thinking about D&D
- Shower while thinking about D&D
- Read before bed
- Go to sleep, dreaming about D&D
And even the reading is epic and urban fantasy novels to fuel more ideas for D&D
#AprilTTRPGMaker 10. Favorite game to relax with.

I'd like to say #DnD, but as a DM, it's often a lot of work, especially prep work, for me to play. When I want to relax and have an awesome time, I always come back to @Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on my PS4.
#AprilTTRPGMaker 11. What's yer brand?

Outlandish Adventure Productions, which is dedicated to producing kooky but balanced and fun homebrews for #dnd5e, primarily player options! (But who knows what the future holds?) We post our stuff on the #DMsGuild and our Subreddit.
#AprilTTRPGMaker 12. How do you get your work out there?

We covered this a bit yesterday, but we primarily use the #DMsGuild to post our work to the masses. However, you can get previews and drafts on our Subreddit, Twitter, and Facebook.

#AprilTTRPG 13. Biggest influences?

Okay, buckle in. This is gonna be a long one. I was inspired to start D&D professionally because of @sterlingvermin, so OAP wouldn't exist without him. That's what makes it especially amazing for me that we're now creating a collaboration.
13. (cont.)

For class and archetype designs, I've been heavily inspired by Brandon Sanderson, Robin Hobb, Margaret Weiss & Tracy Hickman, Anne McCaffrey, Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Patricia Briggs, Seanan McGuire, Faith Hunter, and a number of other amazing fantasy authors.
13. (cont.)

I also find inspiration in TV shows and movies. I mean, the Elementalist is basically ripped straight from Avatar: The Last Airbender & The Legend of Korra. We never would have made the Odic without Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid and the Vikings TV show.
13. (cont.)

And while the Emergent was actually inspired by our wanting to make a super unique pet class, we realized after revealing it for the first time how similar it is to Stands from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. I'm just so inspired by all the creativity in the world.
We're a couple days behind on #AprilTTRPGMaker, so let's get back into it!

14. What are yer Dreams & Plans

My dream is to elevate OAP to a sustainable business that I can maintain as a full-time position. My plan to accomplish it includes collaborations, Patreon, and YouTube.
15. Do you design in public or private?

Most of OAP's initial design process is in private, but we switch to a more public model as we continue to design, posting drafts on our Subreddit (reddit.com/r/OutlandishAd…) for feedback, which we then use for future drafts.
16. Any design partners?

Yes, OAP just added a new designer to the team named Ted, who's been working some serious magic with lore for upcoming projects.

We also partnered with @level2npc for the #HnD product, and @sterlingvermin for #CMH!
#AprilTTRPGMaker 17. Favorite form of feedback?

We all love reviews and preview critiques. My personal favorite, though, has to be when people tell us about a character they made using our stuff, and how much fun they've been having with it!
#AprilTTRPGMmaker 18. Current inspiration?

Oh, gosh, where to begin? @matthewmercer for constantly inspiring me to be a better DM, Kevin Hearne for coming up with a super awesome view of how gods work in his Iron Druid series (I'll miss it dearly), (cont.)
18. (cont.)

my collaboration partners @sterlingvermin and @level2npc for constantly asking me to push my design into cool new spaces, @MystyVander and @cbsa82 for being constant sources of positivity and great #dnd tips, @freeners for being an amazing friend and artist, (cont.)
18. (cont. 2)

@snickelsox and @LluisAbadias for inspiring me to vastly increase my presence on Twitter by putting themselves out there with courageous honesty and incredible whimsy with #retroverse, and my good friends Ted Bowman and @ShadowIndigo3 for reminding me why I (cont.)
18. (cont. 3)

fell in love with #dnd5e in the first place with their unbridled enthusiasm and fresh ideas. There are a number of other authors and people I could list; I singled out Kevin Hearne in particular because I just finished the final Iron Druid book last night.
