It's fucking appalling how many fantasy worlds seem to be occupied entirely by white people (with perhaps a few POC crammed in a distant jungle across the sea-- Christ!). Fantasy has possibly the lowest bar to clear for diversity of ANY genre, and yet fails to do so CONSTANTLY. The human laugh reflex doesn't have strong ethics.

So. I try to be clear, honest, and specific when I talk about things, but sometimes I'm vague or circular about names when I discuss industry shit. It's not that I don't think people should know these things, but there are responsible and careless ways of releasing information. This was not unforeseeable. An idea that I first encountered in Frank Herbert's DUNE and have rarely seen repeated elsewhere is that the data you have can never be more useful to you than the screen you have to project it against. This is a wonderful way of understanding context. Think of your favorite movie, up there on the big screen: A crisp white sheet, clear, built for this purpose. Now imagine you don't have that, and instead you're trying to watch it outdoors, projected against a stand of pine trees. Nearly incomprehensible.
