Dell citing attractiveness of 1-stop shopping (end-to-end - edge->core->cloud) I surmise their cloud is VMware with AWS...Since EMC transaction, Dell is posturing as a much more strategic supplier than either Dell or EMC was as an independent company.

As the new #academic year beckons, I'm preparing new lectures and materials, including on the EU single market. The irony that I, as a British citizen, may not be allowed to work in the EU without a visa post-March isn't lost on me.

Given that the UK will be days away from leaving the @DSMeu when I deliver one of the lectures... on the #digital #singlemarket it's going to call for some agile teaching because I have no doubt the UK government will still be making it up as they go along as they have thus far.
However, whatever the stress caused by this, my thoughts will be with fellow British lecturers, academics & researchers in the EU27 and EU27 lecturers, academics & researchers in the UK who do not know their future.
The closures that @Rachael_Swindon highlights should also been seen in the context of government policy. She is completely right that this is how the Tories are reducing #socialmobility but it is also how they are reducing access to other vital services for the most vulnerable.
It has long been government policy (in common with other countries) that people should access government services online. Other countries recognise that there is a need to keep other options open to protect the most vulnerable. The UK government took a different approach.
The UK government decided to tell people who had difficulty accessing #digital services that they should go to the #library where staff would help them. They then gave no funding for the training of library staff or for their time or for the equipment needed.

Interesting call to action from @markthompson1 and colleagues for #legogovernment Who doesn't want better public services with more resources going directly to serving those in need powered by a digital commons (the what)? What we really need though is more on the how! - #thread
1) I'm a big fan of @markthompson1 and his beligerent poking of government to be and do better in the #internet age. His thinking on #platform government #paas #gaap is right on the money. However, some things to consider as part of the debate...hopefully helpful...
2) I'm not sure comparisons between government and the big #tech #innovators of the past 10 years do the #legogovernment argument justice. There are too many differences for the comparison to be helpful. Think lack of democratic accountablity for starters (more now than ever!)...
