#Competence is the capacity to consistently deliver, without being micro-managed. Sometimes, it is assumed competence is about skills or attitude alone. No, it's also about ideology and drive. #Thread #Skills #HR #Management
The ideology behind competence is multifaceted. There's fairness - the belief that one ought to do what one has been contracted to do. There's righteousness - wanting to do the right thing. There's integrity and reliability - keeping your word and keeping to time.
There's a strong desire for quality - a heart that's imbued with the spirit of excellence. It's why you make sure that internal memos don't have typographical errors. It's why your home is as beautiful as your office.

THE OLD MAN'S TALE: I met the old man at a presentation. I was a brand consultant on a large corporate project. The client insisted I sit on a panel to select marketing agencies. The gentleman; old enough to be my father, represented an agency in #Nigeria. #HR #Entrepreneurship
As he stepped in for the presentation, I saw the expression of the young 20-something year olds on the client's side. They were bright eyed top shots from Ivy League Universities. They were recruited to revitalise the DNA of the decades old institution.
I heard the hushed sniggers as they wondered what this "old papa" was doing there. Didn't he have staff capable of running through a PowerPoint?

Twelve years of trying to grok #strengths approach and helping others apply it to their #career situations has taught a few things that others seem to miss or be misled by other flavors so here is a thread
I like to call it the Buckingham-Gallup strengths approach as elucidated in two books: Now Discover Your Strengths (NDYS) and Go Put Your Strengths to Work (GPYSTW)
I am not super-impressed by the credentialing around this by Gallup or other variants from Marcus. There are two other flavors that are very different and not as useful for career thinking

Sorry for the delay - got distracted by the day job. The first set of quarterly ET stats since the abolition of #ETfees in July are out, and here's a chart. 🤓 1/n
gov.uk/government/sta… #HR
In Q2 2017/18, there were 7,042 single claims/cases, and 429 multiple claimant cases. That's a 66% increase in single claims/cases, compared to the previous quarter, and a 62% increase on the same Q in 2016/17. 2/n #ukemplaw
HOWEVER (1/n): as Supreme Ct ruling on #ETfees was on 26 July, all the increase was in August & September (i.e. only 2/3 of the Quarter). So, there *might* be a further increase in Q3. 3/n #ukemplaw #HR
