A few reflections on Sweden's exit polls

1. The centre-left Social democrats average 25.8% in exit polls -this would be their lowest vote for more than a century (since 1908). The decline of social democracy in Europe continues

2. The national populist Sweden Democrats average 17.8% in the exit polls. This would be their best result on record (+4.9 pts on the last election) and is broadly in line with the dip in their support picked up in polls during final week of campaign #val2018
3. It's worth reflecting on fact that national populists look set for a 2nd or 3rd place finish amid an economy that has comparatively decent growth, low unemployment & some of the highest living standards in the Western world #val2018

Ahead of the #SwedenElection it looks as if Sverigedemokraterna may be climbing up from the 3rd to the 2nd biggest party. First of all the good news: cirka 75-80% of Swedes do NOT support them. This fact seems to be getting lost in the hype.

(2) So, the title. Lazy, clickbait wordplay gives us nothing. The Sweden Democrats are currently polling between 17-24%. So, it's likely that 4 out of 5 Swedes will not vote for them, most of whom do not want their party to enter into a coalition with SD. That's "conquered"?
(3) "Once a racially and culturally homogeneous country." Oh? If journalists are going to publish Op-Eds in the New York Times, at least have the decency to recognize that there are ethnic minority groups in Sweden who have been here for centuries, and in some cases millennia.
