La última glaciación (Glaciación Würm en Europa, Glaciación Wisconsin en América) tuvo lugar aproximadamente entre 110.000 y 10.000 años BP. El momento álgido, hacia el final de la glaciación, bajó los niveles del mar entre 100 metros y 120 metros (respecto a los actuales).
