🔥FIRE THREAD🔥

A Fierce Rant About

SERVICE ANIMALS IN AMERICA

from @IvanThrone

The Dark Triad Man

I'm going to talk about handlers and assholes, and how to tell the difference when someone claims their four-legged creature is a #ServiceDog.

Ready for fire, people?

The very first thing we're going to do is define #ServiceDog.

There's only ONE definition that matters in America:

"Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities."

ada.gov/service_animal…

NOW...

Repeat after me, children:

IF IT IS NOT A DOG

IT IS NOT A SERVICE ANIMAL.

This is not Complicated:

If it is a Pig, a Duck, a Peacock, a Snake, a Bird, a Fish, or bloody God damn Hamster, it is...

NOT A SERVICE ANIMAL

Get the hell off my plane!

I was not going to get involved because so many people have jumped on the band wagon. But it pisses me off. Warning: Rant coming on!

#servicedog
First, bit of background on me: I am a wheelchair user. I have a service dog trained by @fondationmira. This is my second service dog. I've been involved with service dog legislations in the US, in New Zealand, and in Canada. I know a fair bit about service dogs.
The girl who originally wrote that was posting on her Tumblr. It transpires that she was training her own dog, a family pet dog Mastiff. Who has since been deemed not appropriate for that kind of work (doh!). She does/did not know about proper service dog behaviour.

Yesterday I created a thread in which my objective was to point out my horrible experience at the @DeptVetAffairs office when I returned back, for mid-tour leave, from combat operation in #Iraq. Mind you, this was Feb 2005.
I couldn't believe how I was treated! I was sobbing uncontrollably, shaking, & suicidal. I wanted to end it! No more pain! And then to top it off, we were escorted off of VA property because my brother was shouting at the VA staff as to why they weren't going to help me.
Although the point was well received by 99% of you, after reviewing the thread, I realized how selfish it was. I used "I" when I should've been using "WE". I was NEVER alone throughout my combat tours. Deployed troops bond, show esprit de corps, and latch onto one another.
