I had someone ask me about gender and sexuality representation in #MoreThanNight. My official stance: there may be some cis hetero characters. But only if it makes sense. I won’t just add them for quotas or for tokenism and never if it’s at the story’s expense.

And look. I’m not opposed to cishets. I just don’t think they have to be shoehorned into everything. I’m not a bigot. I am okay with straight marriage! Jeez

Actually in my second novel, #iHunt, the character Denny was cishet. I didn’t mention it in the text, but it was intended.

So it’s really unfair to assume I don’t have straight representation in my works.

I don’t even mind straight people. I can’t be prejudiced against cishets. I voted for Obama!

And maybe my characters won’t look like you. But if you’re straight and can’t identify with queer characters, that’s more your problem than mine, right? I don’t understand why you need to see your own weird sexuality to like a character.
