So I made this thread the other day on the perilous state of the UK and the behaviour of certain high-profile figures (Rees-Mogg, Farage) towards EU27 citizens living in the UK.

A few people said "Don't be so dramatic". So how bad is it really?

Thread.

In 2016 a vote was held which was subject to foreign interference by a hostile foreign power.

I refer of course to the 2016 US presidential election.

Putin's candidate won. But the "victors" could protest they won all they liked. They could use any slogan they wanted....

Can I have the attention of people who voted for #Brexit, liberal Leavers, Lexiteers, and people with concerns about national sovereignty.

Please, stop supporting this now. This entire thing has gone too far. Please read this thread, I'm begging you. In the past few days we've had two very prominent Brexit advocates come out with absolute poison concerning EU nationals living in the UK. First there was
@Nigel_Farage.

To my #FBPE friends, in the event of a #Peoplesvote, please let's not rerun the last referendum campaign and end up with #Brexit again.

We love Europe, we shouldn't be half-heartedly defending it, we should be enthusiastically promoting it. Wrong:

"It's not perfect but we're better in than out."

"Hardworking EU immigrants are essential to our country."

"Inside the EU we can veto laws and things we don't like, outside we can't."

"We can negotiate hard to get what we want in Europe, outside we can't."

No, that caller represents the majority.

What singles him out is the fact he's honest and isn't afraid to look as stupid as he is. Most people you meet, most who suddenly have a revelation about the single market or the facts on immigration, they're just nodding. It's what people do. Nod, avoid an argument, and go about their day. Those who'll actually make their case (Leave or Remain) are a rarity.

If we vote for anything except for Corbyn's Labour we're Tories, apparently.

I think; No. In fact I think the reason we've got austerity, Brexit, and nearly ten years of political decay is, to some extent, the fault of the very idiots who say this. Let me explain. Just over a decade ago the UK had a centrist pro-EU and popular leader in Tony Blair. Anyone remember the guy?

Here he is being "strong and stable" in the face of Farage.

The first calling point of the UK's remainers immediately after Davis's resignation will not be Brussels, it will be Berlin, to have a party. (1/3) Post #DavisResignation a Berlin-Remain party would include blue flags and "Ode to Joy", and exchanges of a lot of high-fiving and cheering.

New tactic from the Corbyn crowd that I'm sure many of you have noticed - pro-Europe is anti-poor. The principle thrust is that if you believe that commerce, trade, and business can actually be a force for good you're not "true left". This reveals a lot about Corbynism. They're the vanguard of a revolution. They're going to rip it all down and start again, presumably with everyone wearing a boiler suit.

Corbyn represents an open declaration of war on pursuit of profitable business as well as commerce and internationalism.

Rant time.

Hey #Brexit people, or those who don't like #immigration, those who think that immigrants are #TakingOurJobs, I have words for you;

They're not. Those jobs were never going to be yours anyway.

Really want to know why they get all the great jobs and you don't?

#FBPE Immigrants have guts. We're talking about people who pack up their lives and head to a completely new country. People who, the moment they step off the plane, know they have every pillar of security, whether welfare or mum's couch, knocked out from under them.

I haven't seen Euratom on the news for over a year.

If the UK drops out of Euratom it gets no more fissile material. Nada, nothing, zip. This stuff is absolutely vital in energy creation, medical scans, and cancer treatments, atomic science also employs thousands in the UK. The loss of Euratom would also represent a significant loss to UK science, research, and future technologies. Here is a little guide.

A Labour lord argues that bankers should be able to profit from EU clearing, businesses should be allowed to profit from international supply chains, and companies should be able to operate internationally...

...but you, as people, should not share those rights. This comes after Nick Clegg said more or less the same thing the other week.

Did anyone catch see this article from @JORISLUIJENDIJK?

It's well worth reading, and in the light of what's going on with Airbus, BMW, JLR etc it shows that he was talking sense.

theguardian.com/commentisfree/… If the name sounds familiar it's because he is also the author of this absolutely superb article on the endemic problem in the collective psychology of England.

Maybe he has a point? Maybe the *England* doesn't belong in the EU?

Well good folks of #FBPE and fellow Europhiles, it's not looking good in old Blighty, is it? At the time of this tweet things are falling apart. The economy is heading south already and the UK hasn't even left the building. Is it time for a #BrExodus? Or a #Brescape?

Read on... Reports of a "doomsday scenario" do not sound appealing. The government are behaving in both a delusional and a xenophobic manner, and huge numbers of British people are about to have their European rights striped from them. This Brexit thing clearly has no upside.

So sick of this. Feeling quite despondent about things, so a big rant incoming.

I'm not only sick of populism, but sick of those who object to fighting the populism with more vigor.

#FBPE Over the past week or so we've had a Neo-Nazi thug taking video footage at court in order to rile up race hate in a manner reminiscent of the Brownshirts of old.

We've had numerous people call for his release in "mainstream" news like Fox and The Spectator.

I wake up to enough #gammon in my mentions to fill two question time audiences, or three pubs, or one and a half old peoples homes, all saying the same shit.

The temptation to get into a 132-way #Brexit fight isn't really there, but let's do this anyway. Here is the argument: "Love Europe! Not the EU!" It's clearly so much bollocks I shouldn't have to do this. But whatever.

That argument *might* have some credence if it were not for some of the fellow Gammon saying European citizens should be kicked out.

I'm English, wife is half Irish/English.

I did feel quite isolated to start with (my wife, who is quite a bit smarter than I, has learned a lot of German quickly so she had fewer issues there), but you find that feeling subsides over time. Skyping family and watching Netflix helped to begin with, and gave me a break from initial feelings of "OH MY GOD I MOVED TO GERMANY WHAT HAVE I DONE?!", and homesickness and worry about whether you've made a mistake happens often for a bit.

But...

Hello Britain! @ukhomeoffice, @theresa_may, @AmberRuddHR.

I want to talk with you for a second.

I'm an immigrant. No, don't send your skinheads to kick down my door yet, hear me out.

I'm actually English. A few months ago my family and I moved to Germany. It was heartbreaking to do it, bit we didn't like what the UK is becoming.

A phone call, an email, and we got ourselves medical coverage. A visit to the bank and we've got a new account.

A trip to our local government office to register and we got... Well..

I have come to the conclusion that the UK is irrevocably fucked.

Seriously, I think it's doomed. I don't think it can recover from here. This week has seen some incredible events take place. Firstly, the UK's suicidal dive into a glorious past that never existed continues apace. All to appease 50 or so unhinged Tory MPs, UKIP, a few yobbo news editors, and several people are going to die of old age soon anyway.
