More than meets the eye. By removing itself from World Medical Assoc (@medwma), Canadian Medical Assoc (@CMA_Docs) appears to be attempting to remove itself &πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦β€™s MDs from International Code of #MedicalEthics. Why?wma.net/policies-post/…

Some MDs in international medical community stating that it was @medwma’s criticism of CMA re below & #CMA not accepting its International Code of #MedicalEthics that led to CMA resignation

World Medical Association @medwma developed modernized #HippocraticOath w/ #DeclarationOfGeneva in 1948 after WW2 atrocities & has had highest standard of International Code of #MedicalEthics for ~10M MDs globally... EXCEPT for πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦β€™s MDs since @CMA_Docs’ exit

THREAD: The #cannabis market

Been managing πŸ’°30 years. $MS, the buy side, etc. etc. Seen lots of volatility; the Asian contagion / Russian ruble, Y2K, financial crisis. Big two-sided swings lots of wealth and plenty of false hope. Which brings me to the cannabis market...
2/ The #cannabis evolution is part-prohibition repeal in that there is existing end-demand that is moving into a taxable realm. It's also part-Y2K in that stocks will be valued on potential rather than what's tangible, especially as more people understand the #truth...
3/ And the #truth is that #cannabis and #hemp are *ingredients* for a wide array of end-products and use-cases ranging from beverages to tobacco to CPG, food, clothing and what is really going to rock everyone's world: #medicine.

Yes that's right, #cannabis is good for you...

#HEALING, #MEDICINE & OTHER MATTERS: One thing I struggle with and continue to talk to God about, is the ratio of people he heals versus those healed by medicine or those who eventually die.
Let's discount specific waves of the Spirit, for a moment - the ministries of Kathryn Kuhlman and other documented faith healers. Instead, let's do a simple headcount of those who get miraculously healed in an average church.
We may find that less people are healed supernaturally than those who die, or those who get healed through medicine.

Medicine vs. The Machine (thread)

For doctors, nurses, and other healers these are distressing times. The epidemic of depression, suicide, anxiety and burnout that consumes our profession is at least less hidden than ever before. I don't know anyone who is spared.
Let me share a mental model that has provided comfort to me. Perhaps it might resonate with you too. You see, I believe that we exist in two worlds: the world of Medicine, and the world of The Machine.
Medicine is why we are here, why we have worked, sweated, and suffered. Medicine is the calling, and it is an ancient good. There are good days and bad days in Medicine. The days when you save a life, comfort the suffering, support a colleague, make a deductive leap...

Some thoughts: There seems to be an assumption in #medicine that patients receive the best care based on best evidence, where evidence usually means quantitative research (my assumption). Yet quality of care is dependent on personal characteristics of each health professional 1/
Knowledge derived from evidence is insufficient to translate into behavioural changes that support the 'best care' intention. Science-based evidence must be channeled through unquantifiable characteristics expressed by each individual health professional to provide best care 2/
These characteristics include: empathy, kindness, unconditional positive regard, non-judgemental attitude, empathic listening, intuition, warmth, encouragement, hope and so on. If we're touting science-based medicine, it must also include practice-based evidence 3/

THE TRUE ORIGIN OF RESTAURANTS
Thread

Centuries ago, like now, there were hostels, posadas or taverns where food was served in exchange for money, as in a thermopolium in Rome (snack-bar) where we, readers of @LRB @TwitterBooks @nytimes @NewYorker @washingtonpost, would often go
After the #fall of the #Roman #Empire in these businesses food was served in shared tables and consisted of a fixed menu, according to what was already prepared. Even the nobility, like celebrities today, would frequent when traveling.
But, when did the concept and business of restaurants truly begin?
It began with Paracelsus (1493-1541), a brilliant Swiss physician who modernized medicine with rational clinical judgment and changed the way we eat in the #Western #world.
