I work in security. Government security to be exact. #September11th is probably the 3rd busiest day for me.

Weird comment I got from someone entering my building today.

Her: Happy #September11th day.

Me: Sorry, excuse me?

Her: Happy #September11th day, it's 9/11

Me:
Me: Ma'am this isn't a holiday, it's a day of remembrance of a tragic day in history.

Her: Well we should be happy about life

Me: Yes we should be happy about life, but people lost their lives on this day. What's happy about that?
Her: Yes lives were lost, but look how many were saved because of first responders. You can look at the glass half full or half empty. perspective changes things.

1. I’ve composed many memorials to the victims of the terror attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001. #NeverForget #September11th

However ...
2. One remains my favorite because the post's main topic is not about my reaction to the attack, nor is it about death, not really.
3. Minoru Yamasaki (1912-1986) was the chief architect of the World Trade Center.

😢Today, I'm remembering Ace Bailey. Well, Garnet "Ace" Bailey, professional hockey player from 1967-1981.

🏆🏆He was a member of the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup winning teams in 1969-70 and 1971-72.

🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆In 1981, he became a Scout, working for the Edmonton Oilers. 5 cups.
🏒Todd Bailey, Ace's son, put 6 Stanley Cup rings on the Memorial in 2016.

💍The 7th ring was on Ace's finger when his plane, United Airlines Flight 175, was hijacked and deliberately crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001.
🍀I was lucky enough to meet him, sit with him and ask questions about the 1969-70 Boston Bruins for a project I was working on, before, during and after a 1999 Los Angeles Kings game while he was working for the team as a scout.

On September 15, 2001, the @latimes printed this.

I was jolted awake by the phone ringing.
It was my father in law, his panicked voice on the other end, crying in fear. He asked me where his son was.
I said he’s already in court this morning.
My father law a retired lawyer was a bright, articulate man yet he was nearly unintelligible that morning choking on tears, terrified for his precious little girl. My sister in law, his first born child was a buyer for Macy’s and working in NYC on 9/11/2001.
Papa, as we called my father in law said, “turn on the tv.” My heart racing, I walked on swollen feet carrying my heavily pregnant body to the family room to switch it on and stood phone in hand staring in disbelief as I witnessed the trauma of #911 unfold before me.

Let’s talk about #Iran’s role in the #September11th attacks.

This individual asked me to “Kindly enlight” about how Iran, being a Shiite-majority country, could have been involved in al-Qaeda’s #Sept11 attacks against the United States.
(2)
First of all, we should take into consideration that #Iran’s regime is known for supporting a wide variety of Islamic extremist groups, regardless of their Sunni or Shiite backgrounds.
(3)
For example, Shiite militias in #Iraq, dispatching Shiites from Afghanistan & Pakistan to maintain Shiite Assad in power in Syria.

"We are met on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this." 1/4 #September11th #PatriotDay
"But in a larger sense, we can not dedicate-we can not consecrate-we can not hallow-this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract." 2/4
"It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us-that from these honored dead we take increased devotion..." 3/4

On #September11th I drove a delivery truck at the time. I had to drop off some cash at the bank. I walked into this large bank and yelled hello to everyone as always. Not a single soul was there. I kept yelling hello and someone stepped out of the break room and waved me in. /1
I walked into the room and it was dead silence as everyone was watching the TV. A couple of the ladies were crying. I just watched and said, how can that be an accident? /2
We stood there for what seemed like an hour when suddenly the second plane hit. People began running out of the room to their phones. /3

17 Years Ago Today; We The People will #NeverForget #September11th
“The thing i never understood.

Firefighters claimed "it was like a bomb went off". In the lobby.

Just re-heard te firefighter who described being on their way up (from lobby) and "the floor collapsed beneath us, it gave way".

We know it wasnt just the planes. They have lied...
to us at every step of the way. All to consolidate and enact a police and surveillance state.

And now its being used against those people. The weapons they designed to enslave and imprison, control us are the weapons of their downfall.

Truth and justice is coming.”

On the 17 Anniversary of #September11th, 2001. I wanted to share my story.

I was born & raised in Manhattan. When I was young, I loved going to the Twin Towers, they were a magical place for me.

Being 100 stories high and seeing the whole island of Manhattan was amazing.
I was at work. At the time, I was working for NBC and had an office with a TV. I came in that bright, blue-sky crystal clear morning early to catch-up on some work. At 9am someone came running into my office and told me to turn on my Television.
A plane had apparently hit. There was now a roomful of people gathering outside my office debating the type of plane, with most deducing, it must be a small plane. No commercial plane could possibly make such a mistake.

As I’ve done for years, I plan to tweet every 9/11 victim’s name as a way to honor and remember them. I’ll begin shortly.

If you don’t want to be bothered, mute me now. If you send a nasty tweet, mute will be my friend. I won’t tolerate it today.

17 years ago, my city and our country changed forever. Today, we remember the sacrifice & loss of those on and after #September11th. #NeverForget
New Yorkers and the rest of the country will #NeverForget the bravery so many showed - especially our first responders - on that terrible day.
That’s why I was proud to have worked to pass the #Zadroga Act to take care of their health and offer our first responders justice.

I started my new class, #HIST199 (the History Workshop required for majors and minors) with Jim Gardner and Sarah Henry's 2002 article in TPH (@ncph), "September 11 & the Mourning After: Reflections on Collecting and Interpreting the History of Tragedy." It's such a great piece.
Gardner and Henry write so eloquently, about the role of the historian -- collecting, preserving, and interpreting; making choices; seeking out collaboration. jstor.org/stable/10.1525… @ncph #HIST199 #museums #publichistory
But they also are frank about what historians aren't--they can't see the future; they sometimes have trouble dealing w/emotion; they aren't making memorials. My students learned about context: what it meant that Gardner & Henry were writing within the first year after. #HIST199

We will #NeverForget seeing those towers fall, and smoke and ash stain what was once a bright sky. In these last 17 years, the initial shock of #September11th may have worn off – but families affected, and our nation as a whole, face the aftershocks every day.
Today is, and must always be, a day of remembrance. Let us remember the mothers & fathers, brothers & sisters, friends & colleagues we lost. And let us never forget the unity that brought us together in the wake of such evil. #Sept11
But let’s also act on our shared responsibility to look out for each other, to work together, and to do everything we can to to defend the American values that were attacked that day, and ensure that all Americans can live, learn, work and worship without fear. #PatriotDay

On this day in 2001: Two passenger planes hijacked by terrorists crash into New York's World Trade Towers causing the collapse of both and deaths of 2,752 people. #NeverForget #September11th
Additional people died of 9/11-related cancer and respiratory diseases in the months and years following the attacks.
The idea for the attacks came from Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who first presented it to Osama bin Laden in 1996. At that time, bin Laden and al-Qaeda were in a period of transition, having just relocated back to Afghanistan from Sudan.
