Blocking accounts (trolls & bots) thread
A lot of #remain ers don't really understand the situation they are facing on Twitter, they see an online debate where #Leave and #Remain put their points forward and whoever has the best logic wins.
That isn't what's happening. At this point #Leave (left or right) don't need to convince people of anything, they don't need to win debates.
All they need to do to win is to stop #Remain from reaching people and the tactics they are using are designed to do that.
2/n
Those tactics are to distract, discredit & disrupt Remain attempts to convince people.
They use name calling & insults. This is to discredit #Remain.
Also they hope to goad Remainers into an emotional response so they appear overly motivated and therefore less convincing.

If it results in mutual name calling it creates a hostile environment that will put off 3rd parties.
If people see something repeated often enough like FBPE is anti-Corbyn it becomes accepted by people as being true.

Another common approach is whataboutery.
They make a counter-accusation (eg 'Stronger in cheated too!') to put Remain on the defensive. The side that is having to defend is usually seen as losing and the original point gets lost.
5/n
The point is that those tactics work when people engage with them, just responding to an account, whether it's real or a bot, that is using those type of tactics means that they win.
6/n
The only way for #remain to deal with them is to refuse to engage and then block them, which removes their platform and their ability to attack #Remain.

So what to do instead? Set your agenda for what is important for you to tweet about for the day. What issues are coming up that you wish to highlight?
Pick YOUR agenda.
Tweet about it. Try to keep these issues top of your priority list and not to be deflected.

And as a last bonus, if you block bots and trolls, your experience of twitter will be much pleasanter.
