In @HealthyBoston briefing with @wutrain @CampbellforD4 @EdforBoston @LydiaMEdwards where updates are being provided about efforts to improve #trauma response and recovery models by the City working with CBOs, #healthcenters and #hospitals.
In my 8yrs on the Council, I have convened 7 hearings on #trauma, each with a different focus. Although more work remains, I am encouraged to hear that many of the recs offered up by impacted persons & communities at our hrgs & listening sessions were integrated into new system
Unanimous support @BOSCityCouncil for @AnnissaForBos Resolution in support of @RepDanRyan amendment #1 to H.4730 the foundation budget bill. Of course, we must continue to revisit how #BPS dedicates & allocates its dollars but the fact remains,
We need more revenue & should not be forced to choose between a #BPS #school #nurse a #librarian or #paraprofessional for a #SPED classroom, or continue to underfund #MadisonPark H.S. These are unenviable & unfair choices.
We need an alignment of #BPS vision, priorities & financial investment AND we need more revenue. TY @AnnissaForBos @RepDanRyan @marty_walsh

Today, I filed a resolution urging the Massachusetts State Legislature and Governor Charlie Baker to pass & sign into law the #NASTYWomenAct - a bill to scrap outdated laws banning contraception & abortion across the Commonwealth. Stay tuned at 12pm for the @BOSCityCouncil mtg! 
The constant attacks on women’s rights to self-determination & safe, competent reproductive healthcare - including abortion - know no bounds. The appointment of another conservative justice to the Supreme Court threatens the critical federal protections afforded by #RoevWade.
That a deep blue state like Massachusetts still has draconian laws on the books to punish women & criminalize the right to choose is morally reprehensible & must be changed - I urge the Legislature and Governor Baker to pass the “NASTY Women” Act into law with all possible speed.
UPDATE: Client arrested in #EastBoston court still in #ICE custody. Fighting to get him out, but that's not what this thread is about.

BPD maintains a "gang assessment database" with the Boston Region Intelligence Center, "fusion center" which combines the worst information and impulses of local, state, and federal law enforcement. Their intel on suspected gang members is... well, it's bad. It's very bad.
The database gives BPD cover to "confirm" who is a "VERIFIED & ACTIVE" gang member. It's a serious allegation, something they'd be immediately sued for publicly suggesting about a white Bostonian. But determine that someone is young, male, & Salvadoran.... and here we are:

Yesterday #ICE physically restrained my client just outside the #EastBoston District Court clerk's office immediately after he made bail. The chief of probation said it was the first time in 40 yrs immigration authorities had actually entered the courthouse.

2/ He is 21 years old. No crim record. 1 month away from a greencard. Facing serious harm if deported.
We had done everything possible to keep him from #ICE, but even the #Boston #TrustAct could not protect him.
This is a problem.

3/ Even when they are on a state-issued GPS bracelet, ICE officers will cut the bracelet off and toss it back onto a probation officer's desk. Even so, probation told me that they are officially "neutral" on #ICE actions. I tried to explain that there is no "neutral" here.
