Re-issuing, but as single thread, 11 tweets from over last 3 days, each one linking to different commentator, but all justifiably criticising May's Tories for their abject failure to come up with any ideas to counter hard-Left Corbynite-Labour.

Judge for yourselves. . .

Yet another VG diagnosis of May's Vichy-'Conservatives' combined political ineptitude & ideological vacuum, by Janet Daley.
Corbyn's apparent supporters are inveterate consumers, not marxists, but Miliband-Lite May Tories have totally failed to notice it.

Another who totally understands the political cul-de-sac in which the Vichy-'Conservative' Party has voluntarily trapped itself.
Dominic Lawson in @thesundaytimes on the impossibility of their credibly opposing Corbyn policies which are also their own.

My blood pressure is through the roof as rejection of #ChequersPlan means No Deal Brexit is more likely.
1. Cameron should never have gambled with the UK's future to appease Tory Eurosceptics, nor should he have said the decision of that advisory vote would be implemented.

2. May did not need to trigger A50 when she did.
3. She should have commissioned thorough impact reports & allowed full consideration & debate in Parliament & engaged with business/NHS etc.
4. Labour (together with other parties) should have acted early on as scrutineers.
2/5
5. If we hadn't had 8 years of Austerity, many of the reasons for people voting to leave wouldn't have existed.
6. We should have insisted that lies & propaganda in the mainstream media were tackled.
7. The Electoral Commission failed in their duty.

The spin around the #ChequersPlan is that it is a pragmatic compromise deal. It’s simply not. Rather it’s an “evolution” of the PM’s clear pledges at Lancaster House. It’s the status quo but with none of the benefits. So here are the facts about Chequers and what it means 👇🏻
📖 When we leave the EU’s institutions we will sign up to the EU’s rule book on goods and agri-products meaning that the UK will have to apply the same bureaucratic EU rules to all goods produced domestically for the UK market. This is staying in the single market in all but name
🗂 Not only will we stay tied to bad regulations such as the EU ban on hoovers with motors more powerful than 900w we will be compelled to follow future EU regulations. Having left the EU’s institutions where these rules are decided the U.K. will become a voiceless rule taker.

On the #ChequersPlan, this is where we're let down by our media the most. They indulge in the betrayal narrative because it suits their court scribe approach to politics rather than offering serious analysis. Even a basic knowledge of EU trade tells you this plan won't fly.
The common rulebook proposed simply does not exist - so it would need to be a bespoke set of rules based on complex rules which don't work independently of the regulatory system they were designed for. Moreover the single market is not a rule book. It is a system.
But our government seems to think it can define the bare minimum set of rules, disregarding everything it doesn't want oblivious to the fact that the single market is an integrated system to preserve standards integrity. It does not do such deals with those who mix and match.
