I understand the feeling that your vote probably won’t make a difference. I live in Arizona, in a super conservative district. Trent Franks was my Congressman, for heaven’s sake. But you are wrong if you think your vote doesn’t matter, or that you’re the only one! It’s not true.
Here’s how I know. Last year, I became a PC (Precinct Committeeperson). I represent the other Dems in my precinct-neighborhood. I expected there weren’t very many fellow Dems. But then I got my first walking list. 256 Democrats in my precinct! Including my next door neighbors.
I had no clue there were so many! And as I knocked on doors to talk to them, I found out many of them had also thought they were alone. They were thrilled just to see ME as a Dem representing them. In fact, I am the only PC of any party in my precinct, despite many open slots.

There are TWELVE special elections tonight! One high profile election in #AZ08, a Trump +21 congressional district, and eleven (11!) in New York, where two R seats are competitive possible flips.

Coverage to follow here. <THREAD>
With results being dumped in for #NYSpecialElections, we have our first calls of the night… 3 holds for the Democrats.

NY #SD32: D hold (Clinton +88)
NY #HD74: D hold (Clinton +74)
NY #HD80: D hold (Clinton +66)
Democrats also hold NY #HD39 (uncontested) which Clinton won by 66 points in 2015. They are batting 4/11 tonight.

Hiral came with her family from India to the United States at the age of three.

Hiral’s parents were seeking the American dream.

Her family struggled at first but her father eventually secured a job in his field of structural engineering.
Hiral’s parents knew the United States was a place where if you worked hard & lived by rules of democracy, you could be successful no matter where you came from.

Hiral’s Mom was a social worker & director of a senior center.

Hiral’s Mom initiated Meals on Wheels for the center.
Hiral often accompanied her Mom and it was then when she began to feel the tremendous impact small acts of service can have on a person.

Hiral had a childhood illness and was inspired to learn more about medicine. Hiral worked her way into and through medical school.

“We should, and I know we can tear down these walls of division, and build bridges of communication, cooperation, and inclusion because America is the home of the brave, and we should live up to her promise of being the land of the free.”

Those who we call “DREAMers” haven’t just dreamt of achieving citizenship in the U.S. and keeping their families united; some attend school, others are soldiers, community leaders and hard workers who pay their taxes.
People who were promised protection under DACA are members of beloved families and do not merely fit into our communities, their lives and rich culture are intricately woven into the fabric of American society.
