Listening to #bbcqt and how "big government is bad for the economy" ... hmmm, someone better explain that to China who is currently going around the globe knocking the stuffing out of these neoliberal fantasies.
I must admit, I'm looking forward to the future neoliberal narrative that tries to explain how China is a neoliberal fantasy of small government ... I'm not sure how they're going to try and hoodwink that one, should be funny to listen to though.
It'll have to be something truly twisted, an epic reality distortion of doublespeak proportions e.g. "it's not so much big Government, it's lots of small Government" or something like that.

So someone on #BBCQT was shouted down for saying the UK is one of the least racist societies because he is white. Let's look at the data rather than the anecdotes, shall we? 1/
2/ The U.K. has the least unfavourable view of Muslims of any European country polled by Pew.
3/ The U.K. is consistently more comfortable with interracial relationships than most european countries.

Jesus Christ. A whole 10 minutes on "uncontrolled" EU immigration. Someone finally mentions the EU Law on Free Movement and they ignore it!!!!
Are you fricking KIDDING ME!!!?!?!
#BBCqt
For GOD'S SAKE #BBCqt. You make us listen to a 30 minute shouting match without any substance, and then you just skirt over the first piece of actual fact!!
I know I might be ruling myself out of getting on #BBCqt by saying this, but this is frankly disgraceful.
You have TWENTY MINUTES on "Uncontrolled immigration".
And then you dismissed the laws that control it!!!

The truth about Brexit, the "EU is punishing us" narrative & what "no deal" actually means... (1/19)

The EU isn't punishing the UK for Brexit. We are punishing ourselves. Losing all the benefits of EU membership IS punishment. Just like no longer being able to use the fitness equipment or the weights is punishment for quitting the local gym. 2/19
You might well put on weight because you cancelled your gym membership. But you wouldn't turn around and say "Hey, the gym's punishing me for leaving by making me fat!" That's the consequence of losing your gym membership, not the fault of the gym. 3/19

Here's the truth about Brexit, the "punishment" that some people claim the EU is trying to inflict on the UK, and the real consequences of "no deal". Buckle in, it's quite long. Better to be thorough than to leave stuff out! 1/19

High Gammon count on #bbcqt tonight. Jacob Rees-Mogg and Rod Liddle, too. At this rate Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson will spontaneously manifest.
Rod Liddle is looking somewhat grumpy too. Here’s hoping there’s no pregnant women in the #bbcqt audience tonight.
Although it was nice to see Rees-Mogg finally confronted about the Ireland investment thing. Him saying most of his money is not in the EU is a little disingenuous, given the advice he gave to his investors.

Given that the Brexit vote was largely driven by our country being so London-centric, maybe Chris Grayling should focus on rail links across the North and within Wales to support thriving independent Welsh and Northern economies. Rather than an HS2 to london...
I was shocked and ashamed to learn that public transport within Wales often requires going to England first.
And @nazirafzal crushes this point on #BBCqt

THREAD: We’ve had lots of reaction to this chart – here are answers to some of your questions & there are also FAQ on the #bbcqt website bbc.co.uk/programmes/art… (1/10)
Why 2000? We were going to chart the figures since the start of QT in 1979 but since the political landscape has changed so substantially in that time, we decided a snapshot since the turn of the century would be more helpful. (2/10)
Lots of people have asked if we can run a shorter timeframe and show the figures on #bbcqt since 2015 so here they are (3/10)

It isn’t the choice of non-politicians in itself that’s the problem, but the choice of commentators who represent no one and who add no knowledge to the topics they discuss.
Access to a platform like #bbcqt is a scarce resource, and in a democracy ought to be allocated in the basis of principle, not shock value or being known to the right people.
I’d suggest as principles: being elected (as Damien says); having real power (eg business leaders); representing genuine membership organisations (eg NGOs/religious bodies); and having real expertise or experience on issues of the day (academics/retired senior officials/etc).

@HowShouldWeVote @RoyMotteram @RemainLies_ @Fenmonkey @CanaryAndy @EmbersBrexit @trawlerhorse @JohnMcGlynn @DeborahMeaden This could take a while and I'm quite busy, but here goes
1. Donald Tusk, said, “Western political civilisation will be destroyed if the UK voted 'Leave'.” [Bild, 13 June 2016] I may be wrong but I think it is safe to say western political civilisation has not been destroyed.
@HowShouldWeVote @RoyMotteram @RemainLies_ @Fenmonkey @CanaryAndy @EmbersBrexit @trawlerhorse @JohnMcGlynn @DeborahMeaden 2.Punishment Budget. George Osborne [15 June 2016] predicted £30bn tax rises and IMMEDIATE spending cuts would be implemented. To date, no changes to the planned tax rates or public spending have been implemented.
@HowShouldWeVote @RoyMotteram @RemainLies_ @Fenmonkey @CanaryAndy @EmbersBrexit @trawlerhorse @JohnMcGlynn @DeborahMeaden 3.Brexit would cost every household £4,300. UK Treasury [18 April 2016] predicted that every household would lose between £2,600 and £5,200 a year following Brexit. Their (& IMF) latest prediction now confirms that even on WTO status the losses would be maybe a £100 or so

Something is happening out there in #Brexit Britain [thread] 1/
Following all the ballyhoo from the #chequers cabinet & resultant white paper, something has changed. Finally the penny is beginning to drop. What is my evidence? Well of course its anecdotal but here are a few bits 2/
Watching #bbcqt last night from Brexity Dartford, there seemed to be a clear change of mood. There were the usual calls of "just leave" but the audience response was muted. @claireperrymp gave an admission - a 1st for Govt Minister of how difficult the process of leaving is. 3/

Charles Moore on #bbcqt talking absolute nonsense; it's not a negotiation in the classic 'You give this, I'll give that' sense. A50 is a process in which the boxes need to be ticked to allow the UK to leave in an orderly fashion with a view to a future relationship. ➡️
Once the UK is a third country having left in the orderly fashion which is subject to a QMV approval by the Council of Ministers and a vote in the European Parliament, we will have left assuming our own House of Commons doesn't bring the process down. ➡️
Following that is the 'bargaining' phase which is where both sides have to make compromises in order to achieve a lesser deal, but one that works for both parties. Moore's grasp of this is pathetic as is Raab's from today's Commons debate. ⏹️

What the hell will it take to bring down the corrupt @Conservatives government?

This is not only against international law, but so monumentally economically and politically illiterate that only our government could be responsible for even contemplating it.

Why? The small matter of trade deals: which is almost entire reason for N Ireland debacle. 1/
2/ If we leave EU with no deal - which, remember, is still advertised by gov as preferable to a ‘bad deal’, there’ll be no customs cooperation deal with EU at all. Which means chance of EU collecting any UK tariffs is absolutely zero. (It’s probably zero even if we have a deal.)
3/ If UK operates no checks on lorries coming in either through Ireland or Channel, there will be literally no way of collecting any UK tariffs.

Afshin Rattansi of RT & ex-Press TV is on #BBCQT tonight. He's not that well known to UK audiences so here's a thread with some of his previous work... /1
This is what Rattansi wrote about the suspicious death of "Zionist and Russian fugitive" Boris Berezovsky in 2013. He didn't think the UK media or "corrupt UK police" would get to the bottom of it /2 counterpunch.org/2013/03/25/as-…
He has tweeted that talk of antisemitism in the Labour Party is a smear, a "Zionist onslaught" from "The dark side of Jewish consciousness" /3

#bbcqt just before Q2 I commented on @dominicraab's statement on @the3million and @BritishInEurope
@BBC edited it out
Are non-UK ppl not allowed to challenge the deal after all?
At least @DawnButlerBrent , @thatginamiller etc heard it
I just want ppl to be informed⬇️
@DominicRaab @The3Million @BritishInEurope @BBC @DawnButlerBrent @thatginamiller What I said today on #bbcqt and did not make it on TV:
#citizensrights deal for @The3Million and @BritishInEurope is not 'a done deal' because
1. 'Nothing is agreed until everything is agreed' - Theresa May
[2]
2. It does not comply with Vote Leave's promise of 'automatically granted indefinite leave to remain' (1 June 2016 Vote Leave statement)
