BREAKING: After #StephonClark was murdered by Sacramento Police, it was discovered that DA Anne Marie Schubert took $13,000 from police.

After our investigation, we found that she has actually taken an astounding $420,000 from law enforcement.

I study DA's for a living.

I don't know that I have ever seen a District Attorney get more money from police & law enforcements sources in a shorter period of time - while more people are being brutalized & killed by those police than what I see right now in Sacramento.

THREAD
1. Sacramento DA Anne Marie Schubert is a conservative Republican - surrounded, empowered, and protected by a county of Democrats that Trump lost by 20 points.

She does their bidding. They support her. She takes all of the heat.

But her funding - it all comes from the police.

Hi, visiting journalists! Welcome to Memphis. A few things. 1. Don’t eat tourist barbecue.

2. You may encounter folks who will insist this city has come so far since ‘68.

Ask them for proof. Like data, not their feels. Anecdotes aren’t evidence. #MLK50 @MLK50Memphis
Some data: 88 percent of senior executives in the Memphis area are white. The metro area’s workforce is 51 percent black. mlk50.com/50-years-after…
Many large employers are glad to put their name on an event and toss a nonprofit some coins, but ask them if they pay workers enough to live on. #MLK50 mlk50.com/do-memphis-25-…

A group of Black students from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High called a press conference today to say they have concerns that may not mirror those of their white peers. And that the media should listen. #MSDStrong
Kai says while some might feel comfort to have more police officers at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas, he does not. He says it's intimidating & that black students will face most of the consequences of an overmilitarized predominantly white school.
Tyah-Amoy a Marjorie Stoneman Douglas student said conversations about gun violence have to include police violence. She asked, the same people who showed up for #MarchForOurLives--will they show up for #StephonClark? #AltonSterling? #SandraBland?

Black skin is not made of steel. You don't need 20 bullets. That's not "fear", that's rage. School shooters, church shooters, concert shooters, cinema shooters and fedex bombers are scary. Not a young father in his grandmother's backyard with a cellphone. #StephonClark
Not a man selling cigarettes, not a man selling CDs, not a man with his fiancee and baby girl in the car, not a young boy walking home with Skittles, not a child playing with a toy gun, not a pregnant mother of 5 who called the police for help, not a boy driving away from a party
What about our mental health? We're constantly seeing people who look like us getting gunned down, character assassinated in death and receiving no justice, while the Dylan Roofs and Nicholas Cruzes of the world are treated with more dignity.

Strange how many of the same people who say mass shooting victims "should've had guns" say of black men killed by cops "well, the cop thought he had a gun."
There is NO excuse for cops shooting a man 20x when he's holding a cell phone. The prevalence of guns exacerbates the impact of racial bias in policing. With SO MANY guns, "I thought it was a gun" feels true, letting too many scared/racist cops take lives.
"Clark’s 3-year-old child has been asking where 'daddy' is."
Cops shot him to death in his own backyard, thinking his cell phone was a gun.

22-year-old black man fatally shot by Sacramento police in his own backyard was carrying a cell phone, not a 'tool bar,' when he was shot, department admits #StephonClark sacbee.com/news/local/cri…
22 years old.
Father of 2.
Unarmed.
In his own backyard.

2 cops – neither of whom identifies himself as a police officer – fired 20 shots at him.

Police video shows fatal shooting of #StephonClark (warning: extremely disturbing)
sacbee.com/latest-news/ar…
"About 6 minutes after the shooting, after backup arrives, an officer can be heard telling another officer, “hey mute.”

Sound then cuts out as cops apparently turn off their microphones"
