GEORGIA! (Particularly Republicans). I was shocked watching the SOS debates today. Take the 1/2 hr. it takes to watch. I don't endorse candidates, but I will call out outrageous positions. It's clear that @VoteBradRaff has been paying NO attention to ...
facebook.com/TheAtlantaPresā€¦
2/ the national story of GA's failed election security and the need for verifiable voting system is completely lost on him. Deflects and changes the subject, and then recommends barcode balloting instead of hand marked paper ballots!
3/ He goes further and ridiculously claims that a new voting system can be installed by this the Fall of 2019!! Any one who knows anything about voting systems and Georgia knows that it is at least a 3 year mission.

1/ GA voters-- One of the guys debating today @ Atlanta Press Club will be next Sec. of St. Hear their views before you vote. New SOS will recommend the new voting system. Live feed at 10am.

2/ I hope that the panel asks hard questions like:
--What is a new voting system realistic for GA? (Any answer less than 3 years shows lack of understanding of the needs.)
--Should counties adopt paper ballots for election day in Nov.?
--Hand marked paper ballots or barcodes?
3/
--Should GA have a uniform voting system or should it permit competition to determine best system for each county from short list of certified systems?
--Should the SOS office continue to program the ballots and tabulations for elections?
--How did GA get into this mess?

On the campaign trail, I often brag about my five siblingsā€”because they're all extraordinary people.

My younger brother Walter is brilliant, dynamic, and one of the kindest people Iā€™ve ever known. He also struggles with a drug addiction and has been in and out of prison. #gapol
Around 5 yrs ago, we found out that Walter has bipolar disorder. He was first diagnosed in prison, but he likely first presented in high school. He went undiagnosed and untreated because my family lacked health care, the means to address his illness, & the language to discuss it.
Unable to access the help he needed, Walter self-medicated. Over the years, he made bad choices to support his drug habit, and he ended up in prison.

Walterā€™s ambition fell in the face of his addiction. And when he was released from prison, Walter stumbled & eventually returned.

1. šŸ—³šŸ‘ Georgia: The Epicenter of Americaā€™s Corrupted Electronic Elections @jennycohn1 #gapol

GA is one of 5 states still using using voting computers that CAN NOT BE AUDITED.

Due to proprietary laws, courts have refused suits to audit results. medium.com/@jennycohn1/geā€¦
2. 145 years as a BLUE State, Georgia suddenly flips to RED with the 2002 installation of Diebold Voting Computers.

Fun Fact: GAā€™s Voting Computers run on WINDOWS 2000.

(Our 20yo son, literally, did a spit-take when I told him. ā€œOmg EVERYONE can hack into our Elections, Mom!ā€)
3. So how did easily hacked Diebold Voting Computers find their way to Georgia? @jennycohn1 explains:

In 2002 Cathy Cox, GAā€™s SOS* ā€œallowed Diebold to use her image on their promotional materials.ā€

WTF? Conflict of Interest much?!

Make no mistake: You did this. Activists in South GA organized, collected signatures, & petitioned elected leaders. Folks elevated this story to the national level, ready to drive people they've never met to polling locations in a place they didnā€™t know before last week. #gapol
We celebrate this victory, but our work continues.

Many Randolph County residents will still have trouble voting on Election Day. Many more still don't have a reason to get out and tryā€”and Randolph is but one of many GA counties considering plans making it harder to vote. #gapol
Decisions to close polling places are not a matter of cost, but a question of priorities. Your right to vote is priceless, and we have to keep fighting to protect it. Because any effort to suppress the vote or depress voter turnout should be met with outrage & action, not apathy.

An election night computer "glitch," which occurred just as Jon Ossoff seemed poised to win outright (w/o a runoff), tainted the #GA06 election of 2017. This week, a court may decide whether to ban Georgia's unverifiable touchscreen voting machines in Nov. medium.com/@jennycohn1/geā€¦
If this sounds similar to the recent gubernatorial primary in Kansas, which I investigated for @tytinvestigates, it's because it is. Very. Similar. Late night "glitch" and all. #ProtectOurVotes tytnetwork.com/2018/08/17/kobā€¦

Efforts to suppress the vote & depress voter turnout are alive & well in Georgia.

In Randolphā€”a predominantly Black, rural, low-income countyā€”the board of elections may cut the # of polling locations from 9 down to only 2.

Many would be forced to walk 10+ MILES to vote. #gapol
We are outraged, but we are not discouraged.

Your right to vote is yours. It is a right our ancestors fought and bled for, and we have no choice but to continue that fight.

It is time to pick a side, to pick up the baton, to fight like our future depends on itā€”because it does.
We can win, but only if we all step up right now.

To reach every voter, knock on every door, give rides to the polls. To fight until everyone knows the power of their vote, has a reason to use it, and sees what is at stake if they do not.

Join the fight: bit.ly/gablue

Wow! Get this! First, @staceyabrams has a detailed, doable, practical plan for economic development of Georgia

Next, Kemp has mocked Abrams for having student loans & debts like you and me.

Kemp? Stiffed a friend for a whopping $500,000!

Wow! Geez!

And education!

From early childhood learning to truly universal pre-k, fully-funded K-12 public schools, apprenticeship programs, tuition-free technical college, and debt-free four year college @staceyabrams has a plan to educate Georgians.

Per the article: ā€œGeorgiaā€™s GOP-dominated Legislature decided not to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, saying the state could not afford the long-term cost. That has left adults who earn less than the poverty level uninsured.ā€
Result: 240k Georgians in ā€˜Medicaid Gapā€™
That means 240,000 more Georgians COULD have health insurance if we expanded Medicaid - but that ONE party in power (GOP) chose not to do so. That same decision also cost Georgia 56,000 JOBS annually and $6.5 billion in economic output according to @GaBudget

Not-so-fun-fact: Every year Georgia doesnā€™t expand Medicaid, we miss out on $3 billion (billion, with a ā€œBā€) federal dollars meant to pay for Georgians' health coverage. Thatā€™s $8 million left on the table every day. Here's why that matters. 1/ gbpi.org/2018/georgia-rā€¦ #gapol
240k Georgians earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but too little to receive subsidies available under the #ACA. They fall in a ā€œcoverage gap.ā€
Medicaid expansion would close that gap, providing health coverage to 473k more Georgians in '19. 2/ #gapol gbpi.org/2018/fast-factā€¦
But back to the $3 billion/year. The $8 million Georgia leaves on the table every single day could be used to keep our rural hospitals open, expand access to mental health care, and reduce our alarmingly high maternal and infant mortality rates. 3/ #gapol politics.myajc.com/news/state--reā€¦
