Recall, this is happening in context of Belgrade’s surging push to partition Kosovo which I have claimed all along is primarily a bid to legitimize their pretensions on Bosnia. And Dacic, the ex-Milosevic lieutenant, keeps confirming just that. And still radio silence from EU/US.
So, to be blunt: the Vucic govt in Serbia is testing the US & EU resolve for re-drawing borders in the Balkans. They would prefer a grand bargain but are also continually hinting at the possibility of violence. On both counts, they’re feeling emboldened by EU & US silence.

This woman is a leading figure in the far-right, ultra-nationalist Radicals, still headed by a convicted war criminal, & @avucic’s mentor. Vucic claims to have “changed” his views but he’s never explained how or why in detail & routinely negates SRB’s role in BiH War.
That the EU establishment has fallen all over itself to rehabilitate Vucic & his increasingly autocratic regime only makes this more frightening. He’s consolidating power, cozying up to power, letting the lunatic fringe run loose again. We’ve seen this film before.
The EU recognized this hard work by blocking the start of membership negotiations for a state, #Macedonia, that has undertaken more credible reforms in the last yr than @avucic’s #Serbia has during his whole tenure. And yet Belgrade keeps opening chapters... #WBSummitLondon

Brussels has always been afraid of confronting bad-faith actors — see Vucic, Dodik, Gruevski, Covic — allowing instead the tail to wag the dog, and then punishing actual attempts at progress as an inane show of strength. No one fears the EU, in short, not even in the Balkans.

On #Pride I think of the #lesbian who became my mentor. She propelled me forward into lesbian #feminist writing. #AudreLorde opened a door for me I didn't know existed. I am so grateful she was in my life and left such a legacy for #lesbians.

Isreali outlets such at @TimesofIsrael and @HamodiaIL also ran with the news. @haaretzcom actually went so far as to publish an infograph that included #Nigeria's name as one of the country's "celebrating with them" on the grand new opening...
