1. Great to hear @thomasbrake and @SarahLudford confirm that the Lib Dems will continue to fight for full protection of and ringfencing of #citizensrights for @BritishInEurope and @The3Million #peoplesvote #LDconf #ExitfromBrexit
2. .@SarahLudford also reminds the audience that 80% of @BritishInEurope need free movement not just the right to remain in the EU27 and that this is far from guaranteed at this stage
3. Thank you to both - we agree with the former CBI boss that it’s a scandal people have not been given the certainty to get on with their lives.

My thanks to MPs from across different parties in the House of Commons for their goodwill and best wishes as I voted, at 40 weeks pregnant, in today's close division on giving Parliament a meaningful vote on Brexit (govt maj 16 votes, sadly my side lost). However... (1/3)
This is no way to run a Parliament in a modern democracy. Deciding matters of state, or which parts of the country will have their voices heard, should not be determined by which MPs can be discharged from hospital or happen to be in childbirth. We need proxy voting. (2/3)
And to everyone saying nice things about me coming in to vote on Brexit while 9 months pregnant....

I've done what I could this week, can you do yours by joining the People's March on Saturday to fight for a People's Vote and an #ExitfromBrexit? (3/3)

Kate Hoey, Brexit and why it still matters in the #LocalElection2018 - a thread.

This time last year, the local Labour Party (including many council candidates) were busy campaigning to get Hoey back into parliament. She’s been the Vauxhall Labour Party MP since the late 1980s.
The same cohort of campaigners are now distributing literature, tweets etc emphasising their “pro EU” stance and their support for the many thousands of EU residents living and working in Lambeth.

Today Hoey again spoke in Parliament - in favour of the hardest Brexit possible.
You cannot have both. It is *not possible* to both campaign and fund and support Kate Hoey MP while also campaigning on a Pro-EU platform. It does not square. At best it is a confused position, indicative of a local party at war, but at worst it is misleading and unfair.

5th July 2018 will be the 70th birthday of our beloved #NHS.

This THREAD argues that it is in severe danger under this #Toryshambles government, with #Brexit posing an imminent & particularly invidious threat.

To #SaveOurNHS we must work tirelessly together to #StopBrexit.
1/ Today's devolved #NHS is a complex federation of tens of 000s of orgs employing some 1.7m workers. It's combined annual budget is just shy of ÂŁ150bn. It handles, overwhelmingly successfully, almost a million patients daily.

With each box maybe 000s of orgs, & England only:
2/ Unresolved public health issues & a fast-expanding multi-morbid elderly population, coupled with chronic underfunding & the blowback from the butchery of social care since 2010 means the #NHS is pressured as never before.

I've just submitted a complaint to the Independent Press Standards Organisation against a certain few 'newspapers' for 25 years of lies and misinformation regarding the European Union.

ipso.co.uk/thank-you/
I've had a response from IPSO, their response email is below.

IPSO Response "In order to proceed with your complaint, we will need you to provide copies of any articles that you would like to complain about, and an explanation in your own words of how you consider these articles to be inaccurate." #StopFundingHate #ExitFromBrexit

This is gonna be long, but I think it's worth it. A well-regarded twitter poster, let’s call him Giorgio, has recently publish a thread stating among other things as follows. “The pathways to stopping or delaying Brexit are blocked.
But once the mandate is discharged, the pathways to UK rejoining, or being in a close association agreement with EU, within the single market and customs union, will be open, with no obstacles.”
This approach annoys me for two reasons, one because Giorgio seems to be attempting to cajole Remainers to put all activity on hold until we actually leave the #EU.

The stock statement in response to #Brexit petitions needs to be called out. "There must be no attempts to remain inside the EU, no attempts to rejoin it through the back door, & no 2nd Ref" is fundamentally UNCONSTITUTIONAL as it binds Parliament and the People too.

/1.
Parliamentary sovereignty means one Parlt cannot bind another. This invalidates the "cannot reverse #Brexit" subtext of the above statement, as we've had a general election since #Article50 was triggered, so technically this is a different Parlt not bound by the previous one. /2.
The idea the People cannot speak again is ludicrous. It'd take a MAJORITY to #ExitFromBrexit. How is that undemocratic?Given the false prospectus on which #Brexit was sold, the chicanery & cheating of #VoteLeave & Brexit impact, it's the DUTY of Govt to give us #FinalSay Ref. /3.

(Thread) To all @UKLabour candidates in the upcoming May local elections:

Unfortunately I will not be able to vote for you as a representative of the Labour Party; this is despite having been a #Labour voter myself in the past. Please allow me to explain briefly my reasons why.
After the sacking of Owen Smith, I cannot vote for @UKLabour in any shape or form at the moment due to Jeremy Corybn's approach towards #Brexit which I view as highly undemocratic and contradictory to what the Labour party is meant to stand for ("for the many, not the few"?).
The attitude towards #Brexit by @jeremycorbyn and other hardcore Brexiteers like him really is now bordering on the fascist, something I find deeply disturbing. It seems that dissenters are being crushed.

How much should @LibDems focus on foreign policy? asks @libdemvoice>
Much more than we currently do in my view. For these reasons:
1. Apart from the current dispute w/ Russia, Brexit has made politics more parochial & domestic-obsessed than ever. I believe the #LibDems should focus on bringing a wider, international perspective & that would also serve to distinguish us from middle England Tories & Labour.
2. Our economy, NHS, environment (& other things the @LibDems care abt) can't be fixed unilaterally/through domestic means alone. We need cross-border, multilateral approaches. Indeed this thinking is at the ♥️ of our campaign for the UK to stay in the EU & an #ExitFromBrexit.

THREAD: Why we’re speaking with a single voice and why Brexiters still can’t make their minds up about what they want nearly 2 years on.

#FBPE #WATON #ExitFromBrexit

We speak with a single voice because we had the temerity to have a plan from the start: remain in the EU.

You won the vote and you still can’t decide what it is you’re after.

2/
We speak with a single voice because we like well-researched facts based on critical thinking.

You dabble in baseless populism and nationalism.

Today I viewed the 'sectoral analysis' in the @DExEUgov Brexit reading room. I was handed two hefty lever arch files. During my slot I managed to look at 24 of the 39 separate papers. (1)
Of these 24 sectors, the papers show that in 21 of them, industry has concerns about skills gaps, attracting talent and labour mobility post-Brexit. (2)
The papers detail calls from many sectors to remain part of existing EU institutions, programmes or agreements, such as EASA, Euratom, IEM, Horizon 2020, Erasmus and SES. (3)

Among reasons for opposing Brexit is UK's unpreparedness for such a huge change! Unless we stop this now, the purported benefits may be less than pre-sold? and the warned downsides may well be worse? If either or both? our public finances could implode under self-imposed strain.
Consider UK's low productivity relative to our G20 peers - well publicised but poorly understood? Improving 'this' over a sustained period would surely have been preferable pre-requisite prior to anything as profound as Brexit!
Look at UK's ballooning national debt, which has 'more than quadrupled' since John Major left office in 1997. Ask any ordinary Jo if they'd fancy racking up such a huge mortgage? (ours is ÂŁ2 trillion) before resigning a job to venture into business on their own!

Here's my *stab*: thank you #Brexit for honing my power point skills. In gratitude, I'm posting my top-20 most popular anti-#Brexit/#StopBrexit memes (in no particular order).
1. One of the more recent ones on @DavidDavisMP hypocrisy over his failure to release the Brexit Impact Reports or sector studies or whatever they are, which he testified existed in "excruciating detail"

Since May's fateful appointment & her 'Brexit means Brexit' this has always been OUT v IN. Talk of deals is fantasy. We should vote IN asap!
.@KenClarkeMP apart, Tory MPs voted #A50 trigger (Mar17) to appease #Brexiteers untroubled by unseen cost/impact assessments or exit plans.
7 months down their rocky road to nowheresville, that #A50 trigger is looking like the most ill-judged & stupid parliamentary decision ever!
