Over a week ago, I went to a #FamiliesBelongTogetherMarch in North Carolina and I'm 99 percent certain two young, white people there were white supremacists surveilling communities of color. Which I'm sure sounds totally nutty to some of you.
A young white man with a shaved head, without any press credentials, had a professional camera and he was filming the speakers and laughing when they talked about children in cages.
He kept making eye contact, but never verbally communicating, with a young white girl who was at the march alone. When we marched to the second location, she was taking pictures not of what was happening on stage, but of immigrant mothers in the audience and protestors of color.

Like other marches in #TheResistance, the #FamiliesBelongTogetherMarch turned a crowd that predominantly female (70%) and highly educated (84% held a BA or higher).
Only the #WomensMarch2017 was more educated

We don’t fully know the answer to #WHEREARETHEGIRLS? Having worked in sexual assault prosecution and prevention, I know #metoo incidents are astronomical among female prisoners & girls in state custody. #FamiliesBelongTogetherMarch is a cry for HEALING.

Why are people out in the scorching heat in record numbers?
1) The current Administration has implemented a devastating new policy of separating young children - including infants - from their mothers and fathers at the border as their parents are attempting to claim asylum...

2) The immigration executive order does NOT end the ‘zero tolerance’ policy, which is entirely new and was created by the Administration; instead, they are pressing ahead to present indefinite child/family detention as somehow an acceptable alternative...
3) We must reject this false choice. This policy is simply wrong. It does nothing to keep us safer, and it is inhumane. As parents are being ripped apart from their children and put into criminal proceedings, they are not told whether they'll be reunited with their children...

Granted immigration is a hot button issue, with multiple dimensions, on any of which reasonable people can disagree. I have friends & associates at the DC march. But I doubt my co-op association will be voting to set aside apartments here for asylum seekers who entered illegally.
